A consumer proposal is an offer made by a debtor to creditors to modify payments. Debtors may propose to pay a lower amount each month or propose that their creditors accept being paid a portion of what they owe.
A consumer proposal might be appropriate for debtors who have assets they wish to retain, which would be lost if they declared bankruptcy. A proposal might also be suitable for debtors with more than a modest income.
